LIGATURE 29
Ligature is an annual weekend-long graphic design symposiumat the University of Florida that features an exhibition of juried student design work, social events, and lectures and workshops by established well-known designers for UF Graphic Design students and faculty, AIGA Gainesville members, UFGD alumni, and more to come together and celebrate design.
As co-director of this event, my partner, Janelys Camelo, and I did everything from branding the event, inviting the speakers, planning the events of the weekend, and building the gallery space. This year, we were lucky to have Tad Carpenter and Meg Lewis as our guest speakers and new friends! With this project, I got to learn about the value of a design community, where I fit into it, and how we can all come together to rally behind what we love so much: design.
BRAND IDENTITY
Janelys and I decided that this year's theme would be design connections that make you smile. We chose our speakers, Tad and Meg, and a bright playful style to reflect this sentiment of joy. Our branding included bright colors, curly swirls, and was centered around a smiley face. We also wanted to carry the tone of our brand through copywriting to enhance our visuals.

ENVIRONMENTAL DESIGN
Janelys and I were given an empty white gallery space to put together the exhibition of student work that serves as the focal point of Ligature. While the workshops and portfolio reviews are for students, the juried show brings family, friends, alumni, and AIGA Gainesville community members together. While Tad and Meg juried the show, Janelys and I, along with a group of volunteers put together the space and the reception.

We set up our VoxGraphis Pop-Up Shop with designs from our senior and junior class and limited edition Ligature 29 risograph prints. We also had a live screenprinting station for canvas tote bags.

We also customized the chalkboard walls outside our studio to match our Ligature theme.
LECTURES
& WORKSHOPS
We organized and curated workshops and lectures with both Tad and Meg for our attendees. While the workshops were only offered to UFGD students, we were so excited to see that alumni and different AIGA Presidents, like those from Gainesville, Jacksonville, Orlando, and Tallahassee, all came out to the lectures (and to the after-party haha). It was incredible to hear Tad and Meg speak about their experience and what we can take from them for our design journeys, but also incredible how much we bonded with them over non-design topics like ghosts, gators, and gas stations.
